WEDDING IN THE DUBAI DESERT
Where Tradition, Futurism, and Silence Meet
Dubai is the city of innovation par excellence, a visionary place where futuristic skyscrapers and centuries-old traditions coexist in perfect balance. But just leave the lights of the metropolis behind and travel a few kilometers to immerse yourself in a parallel universe, stripped of everything superfluous: the endless Emirati desert. There, where time seems to stand still, a striking visual story unfolds, with a distinctly editorial and timeless feel.
THE SHOOT AMONG THE DUNES: LIGHT, WIND, AND ARCHITECTURES OF SAND
Shooting a wedding in the desert means working with powerful, essential natural elements. It’s an exhilarating challenge that delivers images of disarming beauty.
- A Refined, Neutral Palette: The color choice for this shoot was based on a palette of neutral, organic tones. Sand, cream, ivory, and warm bronze hues blended seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, enhancing the purity of the outfits and the natural ease of the couple without breaking the spell of the scenery.
- The Play of Wind and Fabric: In the desert, the wind isn’t an obstacle, it’s a co-author. It caressed the light veils and silks, creating flowing shapes and constant movement that gave each shot a striking high-fashion cover feel.
- Light and Absolute Silence: The desert light shifts quickly: from the crisp shadows of late afternoon to the soft golden glow of sunset, through to the rosy tones of dusk. In the total silence of a boundless horizon, the couple experienced a moment of genuine connection, translating into intimate, magnetic, and deeply moving portraits.
WEDDING AT VILLA CARIOLA
Victoria and Marco’s Editorial Dream Near Lake Garda
“We want to feel moved even in ten years’ time, we want to truly enjoy our wedding, and we want timeless images… we want your work!”
When I first spoke with Victoria and Marco on a video call from London, these words struck me right in the heart. An enormous amount of trust, but also a beautiful responsibility: to transform the wishes of a modern, sophisticated English couple into a visual story capable of standing the test of time and being, quite simply, timeless. Their choice of location couldn’t have been more perfect: Villa Cariola, nestled among the hills of Caprino Veronese and the romantic atmosphere of Lake Garda.
AN EDITORIAL, AUTHENTIC, AND TIMELESS APPROACH
Meeting Victoria and Marco’s wishes meant blending spontaneity and aesthetic rigor. The goal wasn’t to pose them, but to create the perfect setting for them to enjoy every moment, while my lens captured the authentic beauty of those moments.
-
Signature details and preparations: getting ready in the villa’s suites set the tone for the day right from the start: carefully curated details with a distinctly British flair, elevated by a clean, editorial style worthy of a fashion magazine.
-
Sunset portraits among the hills of Garda: the couple’s session needed no rigid direction. A simple stroll through the grounds of Villa Cariola during the Golden Hour was enough, letting the warm sunset light over Lake Garda frame their natural chemistry. The result? Intimate, chic, and magnetic portraits.
-
Pure fun and candid reportage: keeping the promise to make them have fun meant blending in with the guests. From the toasts to the evening poolside party, every shot captures the genuine, spontaneous joy of that day.
VILLA FRACCAROLI AND MY APPROACH TO BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY
Wedding Photography That Will Never Go Out of Style
Black and white isn’t simply the absence of color, but a stylistic and narrative choice capable of transforming a fleeting moment into a timeless image. Removing the color palette forces the viewer to focus on the essence of the shot, making the photograph timeless for several key reasons:
BEYOND COLOR: THE TIMELESS ESSENCE OF BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY
- Removing the sense of time Colors often give away the era of an image: the shades of clothing, the paint on cars, or the artificial lighting of a particular decade instantly date a photo. The monochrome effect erases these cues, making it hard to pinpoint the shot to a specific year and giving it a classic, universal feel.
- Emphasis on shapes, light, and shadow. Without the distraction of color, the eye focuses on the visual structure:
- Light and contrast: The interplay between bright highlights and deep shadows becomes the true protagonist.
- Geometry and lines: Compositions emerge with greater strength and clarity.
- Texture and detail: Surfaces like wrinkles on a face, stone, or wood take on a depth and tactile quality unknown to color.
- Emotional impact and storytelling. Color photography records reality; black and white interprets it. By reducing the scene to its essentials, it creates an intimate, dramatic, or nostalgic atmosphere that speaks directly to the viewer’s emotions, bringing the expression on a face or the mood of a place to the forefront.
